The Rotary Club of Silchar, in association with the Indian Academy of Pediatrics – Barak Valley Chapter, observed World Obesity Day on 6th March 2026 at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH), as 4th March coincided with the Holi festival. An Awareness Walkathon was organised to highlight the growing health concerns related to obesity and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Eminent pediatricians of the valley—Dr. Pinaki Chakraborty, Dr. Janet Fahreim, Dr. D. J. Nath, Dr. Hameed Uddin Ahmed, and Dr. Anurag Dutta—along with renowned gastroenterologist Dr. D. J. Sharma addressed the gathering and spoke about the health hazards of obesity. The walkathon saw active participation from postgraduate students of the Pediatrics Department (SMCH), MBBS students of SMCH, BDS students of Government Dental College Silchar, senior pediatricians, members of Rotary Club of Silchar, and others. Together, we continue to promote health awareness and a healthier community. 💙
