The Rotary Club of Silchar was established on September 5, 1995, as the first Rotary Club in the Barak Valley. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Aizawl, it was founded by 31 charter members, with Rtn. S.K. Senapati as Charter President and Rtn. S. Paul Choudhury as Charter Secretary. The Charter Presentation Ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla, Union Minister Santosh Mohan Dev, and Rajya Sabha Member B.B. Dutta, alongside District Governor Jugal Kishore Somani.
Permanent Projects and Community Service: The club initiated its first permanent project, a Passengers Waiting Shed at Trunk Road, Lakhipur Bus Stand. Over time, it launched numerous impactful initiatives:

Chanda Law College, Cachar College, Assam University Interact Clubs: Six Interact Clubs to engage young students in community service Rotary Community Corps (RCCs) To strengthen grassroots involvement, Rotary Club of Silchar has sponsored multiple RCCs, including: Biswambarpur RCC, Silchar Friends Club, Deshabandhu Club (Bihara), Moniarkhal Tea Estate Youth Club, Indira Club (Uttar Krishnapur), Rising Club (Palanghat), East Alitikar Development Club (Meherpur), Srikona Club, and many others. Additionally, Rotary Friendship Clubs (RFCs) help foster deeper community engagement. Recognition & Achievements The club has been recognized as one of the Best Clubs in the Rotary District multiple times. Many of its leaders have received district-level honors. It also holds the prestigious title of a 100% Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) Club. Continuing the Legacy With 85 active members, the Rotary Club of Silchar continues to uphold Rotary’s motto: "Service Above Self, " working towards a better future for the community.
